because I started my period the third week, not the fourth week w/ the placebo pills. I had previously been having my periods every three weeks, the Alesse did not seem to be strong enough. Should I start the Ortho Tri-Cyclen next week (when I should have been having my period) or go ahead and take the placebo pills from the Alesse packet, then start the Ortho? I really do not want a period 2 weeks in a row, which is what I am afraid of if I take the Alesse placebos.
You need to get your doctors advice about this.
So are you having your period at the moment (week 3). I don't know what your doctor would say but I would skip the placebo pills and just start on the active tablets from Ortho-Tri-Cyclen. Just to be sure that you are protected please use extra protection for 7 days after starting Ortho Tri-Cyclen.
You will probably be fine (protected) as you were previously on another contraceptive. But take that measure as extra precaution.
