I have been taking 10 mg of Aygestin for about 18 months now for endometriosis. I have had incredible results with it and my symptoms are gone. I have tried to go off of the Aygestin a few times but the symptoms reappear almost immediately. I am concerned about the length of time I have been taking the medication. My gyno has told me not to worry about it but I am still concerned. Does anyone have any info on how long you can safely remain on Aygestin?
This is what was found on the net:
Initial daily dosage of 5mg AYGESTIN for two weeks. Dosage should be increased by 2.5mg per day every two weeks until 15mg per day of AYGESTIN is reached. Therapy may be held at this level for six to nine months or until annoying breakthrough bleeding demands temporary termination.
Hope the info helps? Please take care, be safe & well.
I have endometriosis and nothing seem to stop my periods. The only way the periods stopped was to take Aygestin. Finally, something worked. I have been on it for ten years now at 5 mg a day. After taking it for 5 years I started bleeding again and my doctor said it was because the aygestin had thinned out my uterine lining so he gave me a month break from it and did some add back estrogen therapy. One year later I took the Lupron shot for 6 months while continuing the Aygestin. Then I continued the aygestin at 5mg a day, by itself since. I don't know the correct medical answer for how long you can be on it safely, but I know without it I would have no quality of life because of the pain related to endometriosis.
