How long will it take for me to notice a difference? and am i on the right dose? i am currently taking 36mg. What side affects will i have?
First, I have so many different ?'s. Is this the 1st Med you tried for this problem? ADHD, I'm assuming? Your age? I ask that because of my experiences with it... 1st my son who is 6 years old has been on Concerta for about 3 months. He has severe ADHD & Sensory Integration Disorder. They started him out with a low dose 18mg I believe. His Dr. advised me to go with that dose for 1 week. Take 2 the following week. But all along monitoring any side effects, behavior, etc. He said you have to play with it actually till you find what feels right for you. I have increased his dose, then decreased his does, 1 thing gets better, then he can't sleep, etc. Most common side effects (does effect my son) No appetite, weight loss, dry mouth.
Now another ex. I am on Adderall for ADD. I don't have the hyperactivity part. When my Dr. heard my son was on Concerta he thought we should try that. My opinion, I prefered the Adderal, only because I could use the energy. Concerta doesn't increase energy or not as much as Adderal anyway. We increased my dose and now I feel better.
It's really up to your Dr. to advise dosage. Is this what you started out on? My 6 yr old is on 36mg. so I would think an adult can handle a higher dose, but everyone's different. A bit of advise, If it's keeping you up at night take Melatonin. Works great all natural, buy over counter and cheap.
I take 72 mgs of concerta each morning, I had to titrate up to this amount over time to see what the most effective dose would be! I had more side effects at lower doses, go figure?
Finding the most effective dose is a trial thing between you and your doctor.
I participated in an clinical trial for adults on this medication for 18 months and have been on it for about 3 years, it works for me and some of the side effects go away over time!
I know a lot of people that want it to work immeadietly, but you have to have patience (easier said then done for the hyper types).
My only issue with the medication is that it only lasts in me for about 7 to 8 hours and I take an afternoon dose of Ritalin to correct this issue.
