... however my dr is going to be out of the office for a week and they scheduled my apointment for 35 days instead of 28. Can I just walk in on my normal 28th day and say my appointment is next week but my script is due to be filled today? It is always filled once every 28 days. Thanks in advance
Yes I had the exact same problem and I just got my scripts the day before he left. Then he went on his vacation and when I ran out I went to the pharmacist and filled my scripts. Yes they must have there time off too but they cant just leave there patients untreated for the time they are gone. I think that there would be something unethical in denying patients there medications which is what they would do by not addressing this concern. So a day or two before he leaves on his vacation either call the receptionist or just show up at the office when they are open. They should be glad to help you untill the Dr returns.
The usual procedure (at least in my case) is they will leave a partial script for you at the office to cover the days your doc will be gone. I would not just walk in on the 28th day and expect a full refill on meds, especially since your doc won't be there. Make the arrangements NOW... before there may be a problem. Good luck to you. Call them asap and let them know your concerns and how they handle these issues.
If at all possible call 3 days prior to the day you need your refills as that is standard practice at many pain clinics. Call ahead no matter what to let them know since the doctor won't be there you must have your scripts.
Hopefully they will comply and your chances are better if you do call 3 days ahead. I've been in pain management for 11yrs now.
I recently went back to my 1st pain doctor and since I am not only stable on my medications but there are no treatments that can be given to me, he told me I no longer belong in pain management but with a doctor who can take care of that and my overall health.
The doctor I went to said I also do not need to go every month and only need appointments every 90 days for pain management only and since she has great knowledge of my condition; RSD, and I have remained on the same dose for 9 of 11yrs now, I am considered stable and most of these pain centers only want you to come in so often for the money/insurance unless you are receiving regular treatments over and above your prescriptions.
I am thrilled to get out of a terrible pain clinic where I've seen drug seekers and have been treated badly when I am most likely their most compliant patient.
I hope this helps
In my clinic you need to call 4-7 days in advance of running out. We are not allowed to pick up prescription until 1 day before they are due. I have been going to this particuliar clinic for 12 yrs. Am very compliant and still must go in every month because of the medications I am on. My dose has remained the same for the last 3 yrs. My best advice call your clinic and ask them thier policy regarding refills when your DR. is out of town. Hope this helps. By all means do not show up and expect them to fill it at a drop of a hat, they need to pull your records and then contact whoever is taking call for your DR. this does not happen in a few minutes nor hours. As the Dr may not be in or busy when you show up. By the way at our clinic you have to sign for your prescriptions when you pick them up. I f you are unable to pick them up yourself and want or need someone else to pick them up call and ask them about their policy. Hope this helps.
