a few months ago and woke up in the hospital after having a seizure in the truck, luckily my b/f was driving! It's hard to not abuse the dosage when you receive the pills so I am now, at 47 years old, giving the pills to my mother to give me the correct dose each day! Makes you feel like an idiot! Glad to see there is a group I can chat with now! Thanks much! Sheri
Yep, can't stop a benzodiazepine like xanax cold turkey without running the risk of exactly what you experienced. Glad your ok and don't be embarrassed by doing what ya need to do to take care of yourself. Takes a strong person to admit their weaknesses. We are here for you anytime you need to talk.
Yea, cant stop that stuff cold turkey, I did, and I ended up in the ICU, very scary, I am now free of xanax for a little over a year now. I always took them as prescribed, but still, even though you dont abuse them, your still addicted to them!!! Go slowwwww, thats the way for sure, better safe than sorry, and I'm glad you are ok! Your doing the right thing, hang in there and good luck to you.
You will notice as your about off, you feel "grounded" "here" per say, a good feeling, however, for me, I went through hell for about 3 months before I felt "normal", but I did it cold turkey(very dangerous), the first 3 weeks were horrible physically, but then the rest of the time was mental, and I have to say that was the hardest for me, SO glad its over, all though I suffer every day with severe anxiety and panic attacks daily(up to 5 a day), dont sleep, etc, so that sucks :( But Im trying to find natural ways of helping(5-HTP supplements)and of course taking it up with the doctors first, look into things like that and discuss it with your doctor first, who knows could help take the edge off a bit:) again good luck to you!!
I've been on Xanax for 12 years now and I've found using Xanax 3 days maximum out of a week if you can, you can maintain a steady even tolerance forever and also reduce the risk of having a seizure due to rapid decline in dosage or immediately stopping, but remember the Xanax builds up in your system so you should never stop it suddenly, the seizure threshold is 4mg a day, although many of us many have jumped straight off that amount with no problem others might not be so lucky, always reduce when your stopping and switch to diazepam once u feel ready and are below the threshold, you may not have a seizure but u might shock your cns into a worsen state of anxiety and mess with your brains chemistry, although long term users like me seem to be stuck with these problems from the long term use,
I personally have got to the point where I don't mind if I lose 10 even 20 years off my life to remain on Xanax til the day I die as the damage is done and has little hope of returning to normal so I'd rather live a happy short life than a long miserable one, if anyone feels the same please speak up, I live in Australia and current resceduling of alprazolam I'm only able to get about the 1/4 dose I require and am now struggling day to day for a few years now with no signs of light at the end of the tunnel, I need to get the f out of the used to be free country, any offers for a month or so accomodation in a reasonable country til I can get my feet on the ground there, fully qualified electrical contractor and haven't been able to work due to my ptsd and chronic anxiety disorders, I just want to live and Australia doesn't want me to, sad excuse of a country it has become
