... clinic. Doctor has been filling med for in between my 3 month check-ups and blood drawls now she will not fill the plaquenil until i am seen at this next appt. which is in 4 days.Is it ok to be off the plaquenil for 4 days? If not, what symptoms am i looking out for to let her know?
Any medical professional will tell you not to skip meds, to take them as directed. However, that just may not always be possible. You should make sure that your MD is aware that you have no more, and that you will be stopping them abruptly, and that you have been on them for 2 years. There have been times that I was out of meds and the MD would not refill them until my lab results came in. Sometimes the MD would call in enough pills to get me through only a few days or until my lab results came in. If you are seeing a new Dr., he probably will not though. I have also been on plaquenil for about 2 years, and I have missed or skipped doses. Probably up to 2-3 days. Nothing severe happened. I may have had to take aleeve, but I certainly did not relapse! The problem is probably that it is a new Dr and he is not familiar with your case.
You can always call the office and explain to them that you do not want to miss 4 days of your medication, and your appointment is in 4 days, can they please just call in enough to get you through until your appointment. Sometimes a pharmacist will be able to sell you a few until your script is called in. In any case, you should call the Drs office and ask if you can have enough plaquinil until your appointment. Explain why you had to switch Drs, and how long you have been on the med, and that you have never missed that many days before, and that you are very afraid that if you miss your scheduled meds you will end up bedridden!
