I was wondering if any one knew how long do I need to be off it until I can switch over to suboxone with out feeling the awful withdrawals?
Try googling Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale, that might get you the test sheet. I know it will be a pain, but you should wait 72 hours and if you can get on subutex first, that would be best. Subutex does NOT have the naloxone in it, bupenorphine is the first blocker med in subs, naloxone is the second. If you try subutex instead of suboxone first, and go for about a week on that, it gives the methadone more of a chance of totally being out of your system. Both subs and subts and methadone are long acting opiate replacements that take several days to weeks to get out of the brain and body.
since you've only been on 10-20mgs of methadone for 2 months do you need the suboxone to get off of it? I'm not sure that you do. In my opinion, you should go down to 15 mg a day for four days, then 10 mgs a day for four days, then 5 mgs a day for four days, then off. If you have really uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms at a drop, then go back and stay a few days longer at the larger amount. I really don't think you will have much withdrawal at all at this dose and that will save you going off another medication. Of course, should it prove too difficult you ways have the Suboxone to use.
