... all through my lower back and missing a disc in my thorasic(middle of back)and a nerve is hitting my spinal cord.they wont due surgery cause they say its to risky and im too young been to several docs and said the same thing.i dont get the same relief as i used to or its my back is getting worse.i take roxicodone 15mg twice a day for breakthrough.any suggestions how or what can give me better relief for my pain?
Thats a tough question. Do you live near or in a major big city like Boston, New york or someplace like that and go an opinion from one of the Big teaching hospitals. The pain if degenerative is not responding to the methadone. You might want to talk to your dr about swiching medications or upping the methadone. or upping the breathru pain meds.I hope this helps
H i jus29:
I have been on methadone for over 5 years for degenerative disc disease,I have moderate stenosis through the central canal with crowding of nerve roots in that area. On areas throughout my back foraminal stenosis around existing nerve roots witch are very painful. Since I have been on methadone 140mg a day I have also had pain blocks - or facet blocks for my back which have really helped and also epidural blocks for my lower spine and legs. These with the meth seem to help. Also ibruprofen seem to help. My doctor also mentioned surgery but I have heard about the risk and that in my case only a fifty fifty chance of real help. But also that I could land in a wheel chair.
Really the pain blocks are great especially with the upper back. My back is a lot worse on my MRI than it used to be but the blocks really seem to help.
Hope this is a help to you
