I have been going through a really tough time now since the death of my child hood friend. Since then i have been using cocaine to cope with the pain. I do it everyday. And how do i know if I'm an addict? Please help. And let me know??
Ok. If you use cocaine at all for a couple of days for some and a couple of weeks for others You are going to become addicted. It is one of the most addictive substances on this planet for people. There have been studies where the gave mice a choice between cocaine and food. both were made available. The mice eventually stopped eating all together and just had cocaine untill they died of starvation or of of heart problems. You must stop immediatly and you will have withdrawal symptoms. They are not as severe as heroin but as bad as you are going to feel since you are doing this every day is not going to be easy. I am sure your friend would not want you to destroy your life that way. Because it can and will get very bad if you continue along the path that you have Chosen. Choose now to stop and live and that is doing the thing that would make your friend proud. If you are doing it around a certain group of people then stop seeing those people. You must set it up so that you will succeed. If the depression continues then go to a Dr and there are many alternatives medical alternatives that are made specifically for these problems. And believe you me it will be much cheaper to see a Dr than to be addicted to cocaine. I take an antidepresant and my suicidal thoughts have subsided tremendously. I feel alive better, even though I continue to be permanently disabled. You must stop. It really is as simple as that. Change the people you are around if they are using any illegal (or abusing legal)drugs. Oh, dont forget that your life can be destroyed in an instant if you get caught with that stuff on you by the police. It is not worth it. Live is worth living. And that is something I have to keep reminding myself even with the physical disabilities that I have. There are people that will help you. Doctors are there to help also. I must admit some more than others so you must pick and choose if you don't all ready have a family Doctor. Just stop using it. Best wishes B
I agree with bagoh. How long ago did you lose your dear friend? If it's been over a few weeks or even a month, and you use it daily, I would assume you are addicted. It depends on how long this has been going on. You are using coke as a crutch to make yourself feel better because you have tremendous heartache. Some people turn to sex, drugs, gambling, church, alcohol as a way to keep their minds off the loss and make the brain and heart feel better. It is safer for you to go through the grieving process, come to terms with your loss, than it is to quit coke. Whether you are a man or a woman, cry your eyes out, scream, use a punching bag, but get out the anger and sadness that is taking your life away. The coke is simply taking your life faster. Many people here have gone through the grief of losing a close loved one. Some have lost their children to coke. This is a place where you can find support, get your feelings out, scream, vent, and no one will judge you or blame you for using a crutch to make the pain in your heart stop. But there is a better way... coke isn't it though. Please come back and get the help and support you need. We do care!
My condolences on the loss of a good friend.
My very best wishes,
