When should the swelling recede?
The effectiveness of the Bactrim will depend on many factors including how severe the infection is, the type of bacteria causing the infection, correct dosing, how it is administered, patient age, health etc.
Generally for a mild infection antibiotics usually start working within two to three days. For complex severe bacterial infections it can take up to a week or longer. It is very important to continue to take antibiotics until the prescription is gone because even though the symptoms may be gone the infection itself might not be totally finished.
