weeks, Does anyone know how long it will take for me to feel normal and want to do anything again? I was on 120mg oxy for two years. Thanks, God Bless
PAWS can last quite a while. Some say months, while others say up to two years. Since you were taking Oxy for a relatively short time (me, ten years) you should be out of the woods in a short time, give it six months and see how you feel at that point.
Do you exercise? I find that a big help!! Anything within reason to raise your endorphins will help you.
It took about a year for me to start to feel 'normal'... whatever normal is?
Worry not, it WILL go away!!
White knuckling it are we, you are a survivor!! Good that you have some clean time, and much more to come. I am surprised you don't feel somewhat okay, but hey it took a long time to get there and its a long way back. Give your self atleast 6 months to feel "normal", and don't quit on yourself too soon either. Hopefully the time is upon you that you will start to do stuff, first and foremost, you need to make yourself do things, get involved even if you don't want to, you need too, in order to want to. Go to a meeting, give somebody a ride, help the neighbor clean her home, call your mother/father/granny/friend/co-worker, anything to keep us out of self ,works. Just when you tell your self "I just can't, don't want to, don't feel like it, I'm sick, tired, lonely, scared, pissed, angry, nobody cares, nobody will know, why should I, who cares anyway, no one will see me, no one knows but...
you do, you know, you feel, you care, you can, and you will get the high powered energy back, but work on it aggressively, and passionately, and with full force to make it work and count for you this time. Go to the local library, check out some films, look at some books, read the newspaper, get involved in a NA/AA group, go to meetings, get on the web,( its free at the library, and so are the movies, books, magazines, etc.) thats always something to do, something to occupy your time, something to keep you out of your own head, and the pitty pot that befalls addicts/alcoholics who don't satisfy the need to be doing something other than thinking about what you could be doing with nothing but your thoughts and bad reactions/actions given the time to do so is so unhealthy for a person with sober time, and emptyness that doesn't satisfy your wondering mind.( don't sit idile, make use of time, it is after all, all we have left). Get in a sober chat room, make some cookies, a cake, celebrate your 30 days, buy yourself something, call a sober friend, I am sure if you went to any meeting you will get handed a list of people to call that you can count on that are there for all the right reasons. They should not want, or need anything you have, they should give away what they so freely got from another sober member of the group. Hey its free too!! Try it, and make some time for you, you will need lots of sleep for recover to be good for and to you, share with others as well, you never know who you just might meet, or who is in the rooms. It is anoymous, it is quiet, you should feel free to be you in those welcoming rooms, if not find another one that does what you need them to do for you.
Hi There, my name is golda and I am a Mom, Grandma and Wife of 44 years who got myself addicted to pain killers. I finally went to detox after about 1 and half years of needed more and more. I could not believe that at my age, 63, I was in a detox center, almost called my husband first night, but I stuck it out. That was almost 2 weeks ago and I am still waiting for the fog to lift completely and like you I wish I had a date, but I am slowly getting better, in fact had 1 great day that I thought wow, but the next day the lows came back. I think you are younger and will not be a worn out as I am from w/d's..If an old lady can stick with it you can..Hope You are feeling better by the time you receive this. please let me know, so I can judge my hi's and lows..thank you and all the luck
