had DVT (pulmonary Thromboembolism) 4 years ago and have been on Warfarin since then two years ago I have been diagnosed with Polycythemia Vera and after many phlebotomies I was put on Hydroxy urea. Is there any one out there with both these ailments ?? The reason for this query is if I manage my PT-INR, my hemocrit levels go overboard; on the other hand, if I manage my hemocrit levels, my PT-INR goes for a six!!
Does anyone have DVT and Polycythemia Vera - how do you manage?

- polycythemia, pulmonary thromboembolism, polycythemia vera, deep vein thrombosis (dvt), deep vein thrombosis - first event, pulmonary embolism - first event, urea, warfarin
Sorry to hear that you are having these complications. Have you discussed with your doctor or Hematologist about switching to Arixtra or Lovenox so that you do not have to worry about your PT-INR level and therefore you can focus on your hemocrit levels? I would choose the Arixtra since you will be on it for the rest of your life and you will not have as much of an issue with Osteoporosis as you would on the Lovenox. You also will not have to worry about what you can eat and how it will effect your PT-INR.
i also have polycythemia vera for about 7 months already and been taking hydroxyurea, been in and out of the hospital ,my last admission ws just last month due to unstable platelet count it is way too high and has to take thromboreductin medicine for a week, now my platelet is going down,i am on my 19th sessions of phlebotomy (every friday depends on the result of my apc/cbc) ,im having muscle pain and on my joints too,i never drink nor smoke and been so active im 46 yrs old and i have been reading so many things in net and personaly have a friend who has pv ... it is really depressing to have this kind of illness but still we have to be more conscious on what we eat and what we do...
and more important is that we have to go for a regular check up...
stay positive ,make the best of everything for we only live once... and always pray... (smile)
