Added 5 Apr 2010:
(Sorry about the spelling) I meant to type "bronchitis" which an inflammation of the mucous membrane in the broncial tubes! I had it pretty bad and decided to take the three medicines my family doctor precribed including the Methylprednisolone tab. Feeling much better today and broncial tubes are clearing up!
I went through a very similar surgery. I shattered my mid spine and have a lot of hardware in my back and nerve damage. I was prescribed the same medication. It blocks the compounds in the brain that produce swelling. I'm not sure what boncitus is (couldn't find it anywhere in the PDR) but if it's an infection of some sort, then no, do not take the medication!! Refer back to your doctor and ask him about this interaction.
Best wishes to you and hope I didn't worry you too much. Be safe and good luck on finding your answer!

Should Methylprednisolone be suspended before surgery? If so, how close to surgery can it safely be?
