i was pregnant and he put me on subutex but then lost the baby few weeks later then he put me back on suboxone so i was wondering if it was true
That is a new one for me. I know of nothing that says Subutex is for when you are pregnant. Subutex contain the active ingredient buprenorphine while Suboxone contains the active ingredients buprenorphine and naloxone. Maybe he meant that the Subutex is less harmful to a fetus then the Suboxone as the Subutex does not contain naxolone. None the less, the Subutex can be prescribed to anyone in need of opiate detox whether pregnant or not.
The naloxone in the Suboxone prevents the user from injecting the Suboxone as you would go into withdrawls if injected because of the Naloxone. The naloxone may also be more harmful to the baby, thus the need to change to Subutex.
Can't say for sure what your doctor meant but I can say that Subutex is prescribed to people that are not pregnant.
Hope this helps,
Sara, we have had another member here who wrote the site to say that she advised pregnant women to use subutex as opposed to suboxone while they are pregnant. I am not sure if she was told this after her daughter, Grace, was born and had some health problems, but she did say that someone told her that she should have been switched to subutex. Because subutex has only one medication in it, it may be safer, I am not sure on that one, but I would think the less medication a baby is exposed to in utero, the better. If you are pretty good on the computer, go to the forum part of this site and post a thread to Robert_325, a member here who knows subs backwards and forwards. If you can taper down and get off of suboxone completely before getting pregnant again, that will probably be best for you and the baby. Not all doctors treat patients on suboxone in the same manner, you should definitely listen to your doctor. I am so sorry for the loss of your baby, and hope that you will be able to have a healthy baby soon. I am keeping you in my Prayers.
