I've been getting cluster headaches on my right side as well. The pain is excrutiating at times. I've tried dozens of meds but a heavy dose of morphine or other opiates are about the only thing that will take the edge off. I'm looking forward to seeing a specialist in SF soon, because it seems as though very little is known by most physicians and neurologists about my condition.
I have seen two neurologists, the first put me on lithium and verapamil, the lithium disagreed with me. both however have supported the use of epi-pen injections of sumatriptan at the onset of an attack. The injection works and within 5-10 minutes the symptoms have calmed down. I am presently in the middle of an attack and have recently had my dose of Verapamil increased to 480mg (160 x 3 times a day) but have to have ECG's weekly to monitor heart rate. Since upping dose of Verapamil - no injections required. hope this helps, my attacks come every 18-24 months.
