based opiates has anyone had a skin reactio to this drug?
While I have never had a skin reaction to the morphine, I have taken it. It is listed as a serious side effect. Have you contacted your doctor and stopped the medication? Don't get discouraged, you may get relief with out the reaction from other types of pain meds.
Hello LDecker I had surgery about 5 years ago on my arm, at the time ( was also being treated for Chronic pain, they placed me on a Morphone pump once I returned from surgery, every time I pushed the button I itched, I have similar problems with different pain killers, some it is an effect that will go away with time and with others I cannot tolerate them. it takes time and patience (unless it's bad and then you don't just wait) you notify the doctor, if its tolerable and doesn't get worse then you may decide to give it a little time, but I always made the decision based on how bad the itching was and if it improved. let us know how you are doing
My husband had a sever itching & skin rash with IV morphine one time, & had had it before with no problem. The surgeon was sure it was not the morphine, but something they were using it with (maybe the saline combo or comething) Anyway he got shots after that time & no more reaction. Sometimes you can be allergic if it's a pill to the binders that hold a medicaine together to form a pill, & not actually be allergic to the morphine itself. I am one of those people as corn is one of my allergies, & corn starch is used as a binder. A Skin prick test to find out if it is the morphine is your best answer. If not the morphine, then have it compounded into a capsule Do you have any allergies to food or perseratives that you are aware of? Would like to hear back from you. Maybe you need some testing to relieve your mind. I take Methadone with no problems.
I didn't have allergy tests for food for years even tho' I was allergic to EVERYTHING else, because I loved to eat! Stupid me! It was some foods & preservatives that were giving so many problems! Ya know, everyone is different & react different to every litlle thing!
