I currently use Cymbalta for Diabetic neuropathy. I need this medication to serve my diabetic condition and not just depression.
I have never known of Effexor being used for diabetic neuropathy as Cymbalta is. That being said, these two medication do affect the same neurotransmitters in the brain so that might be why the insurance company has it on their list not to mention the fact that Effexor comes in generic.
Can you get your doctor to help you fight the insurance company's decision through the appeal process? If not, then maybe you could try Lyrica or Neurontin. These two meds also help with neuropathy. Neurontin has a generic that may satisfy the insurance company's greedy hands.
Just some thoughts, hope this helps,
I have several friends who are treated with this drug not only for depression but for diabetic neuropathy, one specifically because he was about to loose the circulation in his toes, he was even to the point of them thinking about doing surgery since being on this medication he has greatly improved, he had issues with not sticking to his diabetic diet and once he started this and saw what a change I believe it gave him the encouragement to stick to his diet and he has greatly improved. I hope that you are able to improve to the extent that he has, best wishes
Last year I was taking 20 mg of Prozac and 900 mg of Gabapentin, and did not have any neuropathy. I quit both in order to qualify for the FAA medical pilots certificate . I was not successful (yet) in getting the medical clearance, and now the neuropathy is so bad, sometimes I can barely stand or walk! I started Neurpath, but it seems to make me lethargic, but may have reduced the burning from neuropathy. Most of the time I am so sore and weak, I may need to go back on Prozac & Gabapentin from what I am reading! Comments?
