I recently came to Maui and didn't know how long I was going to have to be here. My doctor on the mainland gave me a month supply of my pain meds but I have been here longer. He mailed my new prescription to the Walgreen's here but they wouldn't take it because it's a controlled substance. I don't have insurance here and can't just go get a prescription for this and yet I can't just stop taking it either..it could kill me! I really don't want to go to the methadone clinic here either. I can't be the only person this has happened to. UGH! Any ideas?
Dear Hazy: I really feel for you. There is NO reason in the world that Walgreens should NOT fill your scripts. I had a similar situation in FL when I moved up to NFL from SFL. My doctor got on the phone with the pharmacist, and when she was through, my script was filled. If your doctor in Alaska wrote a script, and you came to FL, there is no reason why they shouldn't fill it except that they don't trust you. If you have a certified prescription written by a doctor with an DEA # it is good anywhere in the USA. You have to have your doctor call Walgreens, or try another drug store if there is one there. Good luck, I really know what you are going through. But again, there is NO LEGAL reason for them not filling your script. Have them talk to your doctor on the phone.
