I am starting entocort for crohns disease. I have been taking hi-dose steroids off and on for 10 yrs. Does this drug work better and last longer?
Sort of. Entocort is a newer type of corticosteroid which works faster than traditional steroids and appears to produce fewer side effects. Entocort EC is a special controlled release formulation which allows it to work especially well in the small intestine and the first part of the large intestine.

I have been on Entocort for about 8.5 months and my gastro took me of of it because he was worried it would cause bone loss. I was taking 3 capsules a day, which is high. The Entocort was wonderful because it made me feel so much better. I had energy to get out and do yard work. Now I am on my 3rd month of methotrexate @17mg a week. I feel lousy, very tired, anxious and nervous. I'd rather be back on Entocort. Actually the generic form which is Budesonide 3 mg caps.
