I have been on the duragesic 150mcg for a long time and I need to get off. Is the 17hour refersal interveinous drug an answer. I have degenerative disk disease, lumbar and cervical. Arthritis and fibromyalgia. I do not want to depend on any narcotic drug anymore. I am 45yrs old and weigh 115lbs this is unexceptible. HELP!!! so I am able to tell a doctor can we try this or this.
I have been on duragesic for 5 years, I was titrated up to 100mcg. I am now being treated by a rheumatologist, and have been weening myself off the duragesic, with the help of my doctor. I decreased the dose to 75 mcg, and stayed on the dose for 4 months. I then decreased to 50 mcg, for 3 months. I attempted to go to 25 mcg, but the withdrawl was terrible, so used 37 mcg for 3 months, then decreased to 25 mcg for 6 months. ( I had hip replaced, pulmonary embolism then knee replaced). I just decreased the dose to 12 mcg, and am having mild withdrawl. Creepy crawly legs, fidgeting, short temper, and insomnia. But I am going to keep trying, Only hope my husband can put up with my attitude.
I also take vicodon 7.5/500 for break through pain, but before the decrease to 12 mcg I only had to take four doses in 2 months. Since I decreased to 12 mcg. I have had to take it twice a day. I refuse to take it at night to help me sleep.
I can only offer what has worked for me, I also found that drinking lots of fluids and some range of motion excercises while laying in bed has helped with the withdrawl symptoms.
I went to the ER with an episode of Gout, and the ER physician said, you are addicted to pain meds, I rudely told him he needed to be educated. That there is a difference in "ACUTE PAIN" and chronic pain, and yes I was addicted to Fentynal, but that was its purpose.
Wishing you luck.
