hi my name is toniann i am a 22 year old woman trying to deal with heroin addiction i have now been on the soboxane sublinguil strips for 3 months i need to know how to get started on a support froup and help me understand my addiction.
Hi Toniann, and welcome to DC. Congratulations on kicking H and beginning life anew. It's great to hear someone request information about joining a support group. Many people think that Subs alone will do the trick. It's true that they help you stay off the H and avoid cravings, but they don't tell you how to ward off relapse, urges, feel "normal" again, a part of society. Right here on this site is a good place for you to start. You may want to do an online search for groups in your area. Maybe check out local chapters of N/A or A/A. Their philosophies are similar and having a sponsor is vital to complete success. Many people have successfully quit addictions without support but the stats are not with them to remain clean. You are so young! You have your whole life ahead of you and I'm sitting here actually smiling! You really made my day. I know there will be more responses with suggestions for you to find a support group. Hang in there and my best wishes to you!
Hey Toniann,u have come to the right place. I been on here a month and have met some of the nicest people and have had more support then ever. We r like one big fam. No one will judge we r only here to help. I friended u. That mans u can ask questions for everyone to answer o if its too personal u can go to your friends list and have a private conversation with any friend u choose. Welcome and hope we all can giv uvthe support u need:-)
Hi there Toniann, Well done for getting off the heroin, You really deserve a pat on the back, as i know how hard this is, Iv been an addict now for the last ten years, I struggle bigtime with it. I have had good clean time in those ten yrs though, one 9 months, 3yrs, and now 2yrs, which i believe is what people need to experience, they have to have good ''clean time'' So the benefits of it can be compared to using Heroin. I have used many support groups over the years, and really its about finding the one which suits you, you may have to shop around a bit, have you tried N.A??? They have one of the best success rates, also try speaking to your G.P. I know of countless groups but it depends where you are in the world, I'm in the U.K. If you can say where you are then i can give you some numbers and names organisation. If you are in the U.K. then also try ringing your local D.A.A.T. Or the P.C.T. Hope your success goes further, well done!!!
