... come off of is this true? also how much suboxone would be equivelent to 60mls methadone as i do not want to be on a dose which does not feel like enough ? Also i know i have to stay off my meth for a day before taking suboxone , or my body will withdraw , is a day enough? Is there anyone who has done this and could give me advice ? How much does it affect the liver, especially if you have liver problems already?
First let me explain, in order to change to Suboxone you need to be at 30mgs or less of methadone a day. Secondly, once you are down to 30mg a day you'll need to wait 72 hours from your last dose of methadone before starting the Suboxone. If you do not follow these directions you can have what is called percipitated withdrawals which are extremely painful to say the least. Once you are ready to start the suboxone there is a method for induction which needs to be followed and hence why I suggest you do this under the care of a certified Suboxone doctor. Different opinions as far as which is easier to come off of, can't say for sure.
Suboxone has been shown to affect the liver. Having liver enzymes checked before and during treatment is advised.
Hi JohnAitken - yep, yep, yep... please get down to a maximum of 30 mgs. Methadone. The less, the better, I've seen. And, many more will probably chime in, but since Subox. is a shorter acting med. than Methadone, I think its a tad bit easier to come off of, if its done right, and that means... very, very slowly. I'm just gettin' off the computer tonight, but will check again with you tomorrow, if someone hasn't given you some other info & places to read about the transition, and the eventual snail slow way to taper off subox.! There's also a very specific way to start induction on the Subox or Subutex (pref.), and I would sure wait longer than a day to begin either of those... I'd wait as long as possible, 72 hrs. or more, or you may be very sick & sorry. This time, the longer the better, whereas with the Methadone, again get down to the less, the better. Good luck! Jill
