Hi hendershot, I'm sorry to hear about your injury. You said you were under the care of the WC doctor? Is there any way you could see your regular doc? Even if the WC won't pay for the visit, it might be worth making an appointment with a doc who knows you. What else you could do is set up an appointment with a pain specialist. You may not need a referral in some cases. You could use your regular doc's name as your primary doc, not the WC doc. Sometimes it depends on how long it's been since you quit drugs. Was it legal/illegal substances? You're right, a doc should prescribe pain meds when you hurt. So I would start a new search for a doctor willing to care for you. Good luck to you and hope you find a doctor soon!
i would suggest that because he is a workmans comp doctor number one those guys get paid bonuses to get you back to work asap please believe this i have dealt with them alot! secondly as for the recovery you are dealing with you can go to a family doctor for pain meds and try taking a relative with you and explain to the doctor if he has previous knowledge of your recovery that the relative with you will be in control of giving you the medication only as prescribed as to eliminate any temptation for abuse on your part.
I also have found this to be a problem. I have refused to go back to 2 doctors because they were very judgmental over my past. I even had a broken foot and a doctor refused to give me any pain medicine. He said go see an ortho. doc and he will treat your pain issues. Also I have found out with medicare and finding a new md is difficult. He got my records from the ER room and ONE md thought I was on drugs because My one kidney (lost the other one), shut down and i had uremic poisoning and very confused and mistakingly thought i was high because i was so disoriented. He wrote that in notes and now everytime i go TRY to find an adequate family doctor, he gets these reports. I was told I could go and sign some papers at the hospital where I was treated and stop these "doctor's notes" from going to anyone else.
Good luck, and don't give up, discrimination for pain issues is JUST WRONG!!! also you have the right to see the papers that are being sent to the doctor also. they are after all YOUR personal health records. Look up about the hippa laws also. Take care and let us know what happens with your situation.
