... latest one was vicodin. It took 1500 mg to just ease the pain. I asked the doc for something stronger that required less pills. she prescribed 650 mg every 6 hours. the vicodin worked way better. I feel no pain relief with this. Why is this happening if rixocet is supposed to be so much stronger?
Have you tried any extended release morphine type meds? MS Contin, Avinza? They work well on chronic pain and usually people can take much less breakthrough pain meds like vicodin and percocet. The meds you are on are short acting ones and not usually prescribed for long term chronic pain. What have you tried in the past? It's not good for you to take so much acetaminophen. I would discuss an alternative pain control plan with your doctor asap. Good luck to you and hope you get your pain under control.
You must be referring to to the tylenol amount when you say1500. What is the preceding number before the slash.. Like 5/325 or 7/500, or10/500 etc... This indicates the amount (the 1st number) of the actual Vicoden & after the slash is the amount of tylenol. Helps to know what you are referring to., but Cathleen is right. Are you going to a pain doctor? They will most likly put you on something more time released. Hope this helps.
It is unfortunate but controlling pain is not exact, what will work for one person is totally ineffective for another, it seems the best option that you have is to give the office a call she may want you to come in and bring your medication then that way she can account for what she has written and then possibly discard them and then try another drug entirely, We have seen on this site where some doctors shy away from prescribing pain medications, I live in Indiana it seems the Drug enforcement agency keeps an eye on doctors who need to write multiple prescriptions especially for the same person, I just routinely take my medications in and allow the doctor to see what I have then the doctor has the option of what she does with the medication, I think if I try and take care of her by being as open and honest as possible then she cannot be accused of anything, in other words the better care and better answers I give her the better care that she can give me, I hope that you are able to find something that will work for you, please keep us posted
Im a little confused because of the numbers. From what I gather, I think you were taking 3 of the 5/500 vicodins so thats 15mg a day of hydrocodone (active opiate ingredient in vicodin). But then what did they switch you to? You just said 650mg but no med name. You later mentioned Roxicet so if thats what you were taking, then it would be X/650. The X is the part that matters. The 650 is on tylenol. So you would need to tell us what the first number is to be able to compare it with the Vicodin you were taking.
i was on narco's or tabs for many years but after my 4th back surgery .my pm put me on oxy's was 15 mg but she has went down to 5mgs and the fentanyl patch 75mcg and i was on soma's but my doc's office says the won't give soma's out no more due to the being so addictive !so now she gave me tizidine 3 x a day and ultrams 4 x a day and the oxy's 3 x a day!
she told me the tabs & narco's was nothing to ease chronic pain that what she has put me on is in the big time stuff!oh yeah i almost forget i'm also on fentanyl citrate 200mcg x 2 a day for really bad break through pain!and i have to say i'm as close to be free of pain as i can ever remember !
of course i have my days when it seems as though my whole body is one big pain and nothing will ease it ! but my pm is really trying to help me ! and i think God for them! yeah i signed a contract but i plan on being honest and taking my meds as i should ,so i have no problems with them!
wishing you the best !God bless!
I've been on a lot of different pain meds. The only thing that works for me is vicodin. They tried morphine and it had no effect at all. Sometimes your body just doesn't react to some meds. My mom can take half of a vicodin 5/325 and sleep for 9 hours. I have to take 2 or 3 just to feel like I've had anything at all. I hope you can find something that helps.
