- peri-ds, acne, pain, polycystic ovary syndrome, weight, period
I have the following symptoms:
acne - have had a course of Roaccutane - temp mild improvement 2 years ago
hair on face and tummy
slightly over-weight and gaining
I have suggested PCOS to the doctor and have arranged a blood test.
Doctor seems to be concentrating on my acne and i had to push for the blood test.
Are these symptoms likley to be PCOS and should the doctor have picked up on this ? Please can u advise me on tests for PCOS and give me some info (doctor does not seem very informative).
To me, it seems like PCOS could very well be your problem.Do you have a gynecologist, or are you just going to a primary physician? You may want to find a doctor more familiar with PCOS. Here is a bit of info about it. I hope that you get it straightened out soon.
Good for you--not letting your doctor discourage you. Unfortunately, there are a lot of docs out there who just want to treat the superficial problems rather than their cause, or they want to ignore the problems entirely. I have the same kind of problem--looking for an answer, not getting help. I also fear I suffer from PCOS and have run into a lot of opposition in trying to find out the answer. It sounds to me like you share many common symptoms of PCOS, but you may also want to look into adrenal fatigue or Cushing's syndrome, all of which exhibit the symptoms you've listed. In my own experience, doctors don't pick up on half of what they should. I guess you can't really blame them; there's a world of diseases out there, and everyone is uniquely different. People like us just need to believe in themselves and push forward in search of the truth, even if it means doing all the research alone.
Good luck in your search for better health :)
