Hi - yes, I believe so. I haven't found a link for you to read on this though, just know from my "life" experience. When your Pancrease is having difficulties, whether it is producing less, not working at all, etc. it is telling you that it is having problems. And these problems will eventually result in it's not working at all - which is diabetes in it's various stages.
I hope you (or your friend) will do everything possible to help delay your body's progression to full diabetes. It is no fun, as I'm sure hypoglycemia isn't any fun as well. - EJ23
