Hypertension - Atenolol vs. Metoprolol both 50 mg. What are the differences? Which one is "better?"?

They are both beta blockers which slow the heart rate down. In my PERSONAL experience, metoprolol worked better than atenolol. One is not "better" than the other, but one may treat your specific condition better. Talk to your doctor.

I appreciate the feedback since this is my first time taking either of these meds. One doc prescribed atenolol then the other replaced it with metoprolol which I've been on since. I don't seem to have any ill effects from the switch but I've had some pretty spectacular dreams! Dunno if it's related...
