HI Billie- Thats an interesting question, and tough to give an accurate answer on, but Hydromet is another word for Hydrocodone, a narcotic that many use to help with difficulty with breathing. It's probably a short term treatment, and eventually maybe an inhaler will be prescribed, but for now, think of it as a way to help you breath better and create a better passageway for air in and out of lungs. So it's affect would be to help your daily airway breathing, non obstruction of lung flow. Stay in touch with your doctor on this, and good luck!
