... gave me this oxycodone-ACETAMINOPHEN 5-3 is it the same haven't taken it yet because I know the other one work is there a difference
Kathleen, you just got a stronger opioid (oxycodone instead of hydrocodone) prescription. They both have close to the same amount of acetaminophen (FYI, APAP is the chemical name for acetaminophen). The only problem you might have--and not likely--is a sensitivity (allergy/reaction) to oxycodone where there is no problem with the hydrocodone prep. Basically you had been taking generic Norco® or Vicodin® that got switched out for generic of Percocet®...
Call your pharmacy !
OxyContin is stronger than hydro. 7.5mg of hydro = 5mg of OxyContin.
Hydro can have refills lasting 6 months.
OxyContin requires a monthly script with no refills.
OxyContin is a semi-synthetic derivedvfrom the Thebien for pain relief only.
Hydro is also a semi-synthetic derived from thebien and codeine for pain relief and as a cough suppressant.
Kathleen, I just wanted to reiterate that you have to take this back to the pharmacy and explain your concerns. Somewhat strangely, if you take them expecting them to be the same and they are not is YOUR fault. Basically you can pay for another's mistake; don't wear it and make sure you get a photocopy of any pharmacy statement about policy and so on. You have to protect yourself these days. Demand the script you were supposed to have filled and if they um and ah, get them to call your doctors surgery while you are there.
I bet the clinician at the doctors office wrote it wrong. They say Oxy is stronger and maybe in some ways it is. It makes me itch more buy hydrocodone gives me better pain relief. If you aren't allergic I don't think you'll have any problem with them but I'd certainly call the pharmacy to see what the prescription actually says. If it says Percocet then call your doctor but in the meantime don't suffer a bunch of pain, you can always say that you just noticed. It wasn't you who messed up and you shouldn't suffer for it. I've taken both and there is little difference IMO between 10mg of hydrocodone and 10mg of oxycodone. I would not overthink it but I certainly wouldn't suffer pain if the doctor made a mistake, if it was the pharmacy then they should fix it pronto!
