That's what you have a dr for. He needs to decide what pain meds and the dose you need. Its not good to know too much about narcotics in this day and age.

She is right, your Dr will set your dose but the usual starting dose of Percocet is 5/325 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours. Percocet is about twice the strength of hydrocodone. There are a lot of factors involved in setting a dose-the amount and type of pain, any "co-morbid" conditions (other health problems you may have, what other medications you are on, etc. These considerations require a Drs expertise to set a dose so keep that in mind. The thing to remember is to keep open lines of communication with your pain management Dr. If you feel a medication is not working to help relieve your pain, you need to call him and talk about your options. Never take it upon yourself to change your dose, take more or use more frequently any medication. Doing so can lead to misuse, abuse, overdose and it can lead to your Dr refusing to give you opioid pain medications any longer.
