Does he need to take 20 mg a day Glipizide and 2000 mg a day of Metformin also? age 69, male, adult onset Diabetes, sugar levels fluctuate - AM fasting 80 - 140, afternoon - 180 - 260
You make no mention of diet modifications. When I was diagnosed with Type 2 three years ago, my fast BG was 430. With my doctors approval, I lost 55 pounds in 60 days, and with consistent dietary restraint I have maintained 170 pounds and a fast BG between 85 and 105. I am 64, disabled due to back injuries, take Metformin twice daily, and will do almost ANYTHING to avoid becoming insulin dependent. Weight and improper diet caused my diabetes, but everyone is different!
I am a diabetic and I assure you all these meds are needed to help him in his quest for good blood glucose levels (numbers) and control of his diabetes. Each medication does a different job and acts in a different way. Also just a little comment, his afternoon blood sugar level is a bit on the high side and he may want to getting those numbers down to somewhere around the same numbers that he gets in the morning.
