Unfortunately, medications used to relieve depression in Bipolar Disorder take longer to help a patient than those used to bring a person off a manic episode. Typically one may expect a period of 30 days or more before a significant change will be seen. Effexor was originally marketed as a faster "fix" for depression but history has not been on its side. Of course there are exceptions but this is the average time, including necessary dosage adjustments. My personal issues with depression relief over the course of 40 years falls within those time frames. Group and one on one counseling during this time proved very beneficial and I suggest this as an adjunct to medication. I hope this helps. I wish you the best.
