generic is losartan pot. for which he has prescribed 100 mg. Is this an appropriate equivalent dosage.
Benicar is olmesartan and there is no generic for it so the Dr has switched him to a medication that is in the same family, losartan, which is a generic (the brand name is Cozaar) According to an equivelent dosing chart I have, the equivelent of olmesartan 20mg should be losartan 50mg so he did go just a bit higher. Were his blood pressures still elevated some while on Benecar? If so, then that is why he chose to go a bit higher with the losartan. I would recommend that you do check his blood pressure at home, if possible, or try to check it at any public blood pressure machine like the pharmacy or grocery store, but taking it at home with a home blood pressure monitor, in good working order, is best.. If he has any symptoms like dizziness, especially when first standing up from a sitting position, unusual tiredness, nausea, changes in his heart rate, or any unusual symptoms that are new should be reported to his Dr.
