Can anyone tell us what to take to relieve pain? Thanks!
You really need to talk to the subs dr, he may increase his dose, put him on zovirax or achlovir and give other meds for nerve pain as shingles are left over chicken pox virus embedded in the nerves. Opiates witll not work with the suboxone.
My son had shingles on his face, which is very dangerous because of the eyes. He was prescribed Lyrica for the pain which is a seizure drug that is prescribed for nerve pain. gabapentin is another that is used. I'm not sure about taking them with Subonxone, PattiShan or Laurie Shay whould be able to answer this for you. These are not opiates.
The common treatment for nerve pain associated with shingles is Neurontin. It is non narcotic and not addictive. It does require a prescription. Unfortunately, shingles is from the chicken pox virus that lays latent in the nerve fibers and can reoccur later in life. It maybe related to decreased immunity but probably has nothing to do with the Suboxone. You need to consult a doctor and get him the proper treatment for the pain. It does not require an opiate which of course won't work while he is taking the Suboxone anyway.
If the pain is bad, I would stop Suboxone and take pain killers and antibiotics until shingles are gone, they can be very painfull. But talk to your DR. because this is my opinion and I am no DR. I have had shingles and have took Suboxone but years apart. Good luck.
