I have taken this med for over 5 years or more to control headaches and I dont want to be on them any more if I can be off them. I would like a safe way to ween myself off and see if I can live without then thank you!
You don't say how often you have been taking the Esgic. Only one of my neurologists would prescribe it to me and emphatically said that I could not take it more than 2x per week due to the hazard of rebound headaches. The other neurologist was too concerned about rebound headaches to even prescribe it. So if you have been taking it more often, you need help from a doctor to ween yourself off of them, maybe by adding another pain killer. But get help.
If you haven't been using them too much, then I wonder why you want to stop taking them? I had severe headaches for about 25 years, once a month, sometimes several times a month. Just taking the Esgic immediately let me to always give all day training classes without ever canceling one.
But there are daily medications that you could take instead to prevent your headaches.
Then I had a major stroke which led to severe daily 24/7 migraines which even the Esgic couldn't help with. I've had a number of treatments and medications to substantially help those migraines. If you're wondering what those other treatments are, you will have to post another question, since your question only allows one answer.
I really wish you luck. There is nothing worse than a bad migraine.
