I am a healthcare worker that suffered a contaminated needle stick on the job. I was seen by a physician within 4 hrs of the stick. During the visit lab was drawn, Chemistry 23 screen, Hepatitis panel (Hep A,B,C, Hep B immune status, HIV and RPR. I was started on Combivar 450mg during the visit, and prescribed Combivar 450mg BID, along with Phenergan 25mg q 12 hr. When can I expect side effects, if any, to begin? I have to return in one week to be seen again. Any information you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks BW
The odds are on your side that you will never have a problem. Did the patient have any medical problems that you are treated for? If not you are in pretty good shape. If the patient is suffering from any of these problems it could be never or sometime in your lifetime you could have a problem.
I had a blood transfusion in 1956 and I have to watch the possibilities of Hep. C forever. I am not trying to scare you, but I believe that it is best to be honest.
Take it easy and be healthy.
