I just recently found out I'm pregnant about 6 weeks. And I've been on suboxone for over 6 months. After reading a couple different websites I'm not sure what to think about all of this! I'm only on 1 mg of suboxone daily. And my Dr doesn't plan on putting me on subutex until after I can be approved for some type of medical insurance. So I guess since I'm not being taken off suboxone immediately will my baby be safe? Please let me know?
I'd say there are a lot worse things you could be exposing your child to. However, it is protocol to switch to subutex for pregnancy because naloxone can be harmful to a fetus. As a former suboxone patient, I can say it is a miracle, but don't forget that it's fairly new and any info evaluating pregnancy safety is probably not 100% proven.
My suggestion would be to just get off the sub's altogether, but ONLY DO THIS IF YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE THAT YOU WILL NOT RELAPSE!!! Detox from 1mg is relatively painless. A lot of doctors actually ween their patients off much higher doses of suboxone in 2mg steps. Obviously there will be a week or two that you don't feel great, but it will be nothing like withdrawals you may have experienced before getting on suboxone.
Good luck and stay strong!
