My aunt said she was 8 that I think is very early. My daughter goonna be 13 in jan shouldn't she at least start by 14? I appreciate any answers. Jaime oh one more thing I think I should make her a gyno apt get her use to them before she needs paps and things what's the opinion on that?
Hey Gals, don't mean to shock you, but I was 16-17. I know I was past 16 because I was in a school drivers' Ed car with the football Coach teaching us when I bled on the car seat! Ouch! That was embarrassing! I also had no boobs. Those didn't come along until I was 22-24. Before that I was an AA. Now I'm a C, but would be a small C to B if I could lose 20 lbs! ;=}
Hi Litlmommag! Sorry i havnt talked to you in a while but ive been kinda in a funk if you know what i mean? I wish i could answer your question but we will leave that to all the ladies on the site of corse! LOL... hope all is well and i hope you had a great turkey day.. take care and ill chat with ys soon my friend.. Mickey..
Jaime, my mom started at 10, I had one at 11 and didn't have another til 14. My mother in law also started at 10, so I expected my daughter to do that too since both grandmothers started at 10. My daughter still hadn't started at nearly 15, although she had plenty up top, and we took her to be checked. Dr said all hormones were fine, estrogen slightly low, she started right after that. I suspect she had lite ones before but didn't realize it as I saw some slight staining when I washed her clothes. My grandmother had an ovarian cyst removed at 16 and then hers started. I think the average age is 12, but as you can see by those who've answered, it varies. I bet your girls are fine, just make surenthey are always prepared with supplies when they spend the night away, it tends to happen when they spend the night away from home and then they freak because they don't have supplies. I have heard of that happening a lot and happened to me and my daughter. Patti
I started at 11 and have suffered ever since. My friends some of them started before me,others did'nt til they were 15,16.
Everyone is different for when they start, has she had any spotting or showing signs of moodiness or that yet??
I'm not sure about the gyne, does she attend a female doc?If so,then i would suggest you wait til she starts menstruating then see if she suffers with them or not. Do you have trouble with your periods or anyone in your family? If so,then be prepared that she may well too follow.
Thats what happened with me,i started them early and suffered alot through my teenage years,as you probably read from some of my previous posts,it was just this year at 25that i was diagnosed with endometriosis, the doc's just didnt listen to me all along,so if your daughter does show signs of suffering i would suggest you bring her to a gyne straight away but you wont know til she starts and even then it may take up to a year for her periods to become regular.
Hope this helps x
I was 11 as well. My daughter ddn't start until 13. Your girl will start soon I would think. IF you take her to a gyno, do it as a consult, but don't have the doc do an exam. That's just my opinion sweet Jaime!!
I began to make this answer very political, yet erased it, glad I did!!!
Love to you and yours jaime,
Hi Jaime, I was 11, & was always told it could be from 8 to 16 & be normal as can be. The other thing I was taught was the younger you start mensus, the older you will be when the change hits you, & the older you start the younger you will be. Never did make sense to me about that, but I didn't have little girls,, & had a hysterectomy at 22 so haven't really kept up with the medical community about all these things. As far as the GYN, I would check with their pediatrician, but as long as no problem seems to be there, I don't think I would worry about it too much...
I was almost 14, a late starter. All my friends, female relatives around the same age had started to menstruate, but not me. I felt like freak!
In the big picture I don't know how much it means.
I wonder if there has been any research done on the relativity to age of menstruation and any other female issues, including types of cancer. Maybe they have and I don't know about it.
Hope this is of some help, J
Jaime, I was 11 and my daughters (3) were all 11 - 12 years old. As far as your daughter is concerned, with your sisters being older, I wouldn't worry until she is at least 17, or she feels that there is a problem she wants checked. I talked to my girls about the importance of gyno appointments, but I waited until they were sexually active before I suggested they get a check up done. I went with my middle girl for a physical check up and stayed with her in the room because she was uncomfortable with the older, male gynecologist; it made it easier for her. You might want to be prepared to go with your daughter the first time too (if you have that kind of comfortable relationship). Hope this helps.
I was 2 weeks shy of 16 years old. I was a late one. Gynecologist will not do a pap test on her until she is sexually active. Also I thought I would mention that when I had my periods I used a tampon once and it was so painful when I took it out, I believe that's when I lost my virginity.. Now a days I think the tampons fit better and are smaller for young girls. Anyone else have this happen to them?
My daughter started in her 14th birthday a month ago. I started when I was 15! But had menapause when I was 53. My mother was 15 when she started and had menapause close to 60. I would think 13 is average 8 Is omg and 9-10 has progressively been frequent and it has been said that it is bc of the hormones given to meat animals to make them grow and this causes early sexualization of our daughters. I would like to know how you guys are telling them what to do. I want to teach her tampons due to sports. But want to quiz others that have that early. Thank you.. :)
Hi Jaime - As many of us here, I started at 13, but didn't know what it was because it was not red, but brown. Because I had ridden horses & been very athletic I guess, I wore tampax from early on. My mom said to try inserting the tampax by lying on my back, and relaxed on top of the bed with knees up, and it was no problem. This was way before I was sexually active (which started at 18). I didn't see a gynecologist till I was in my 20's, but was very open with mom, whether she wanted to be or not! It was much easier to laugh about everything & make her laugh, as well! Plus, she was very accepting and non-judgemental about everything. At 16, my dad took me to the Gyno because I had no breasts! Just naturally low in estrogen, I guess. They never did grow much, but I was never sick during pregnancy, which has been theorized to be due to that baseline low estrogen... probably TMI! But, good luck! :)
Hi all, I know I am a bit late with this answer. I have a few minutes to answer, I started when I was 11 years old I was on my way to see the film Bambi with my mum. I was well informed by my school as to what to expect, my mum never had that talk with me, so I made sure I told my daughter Sarah early on and kept talking to her about it, and when she did start it was no big deal for her. She too was 11 years old when she started. Liz.
