My husband has gout flareups. doctor gave him this instead of indocin because of his high blood pressure and stage 4 kidney disease. then, he was put on Colchicine with the course of prednisone and continue the colchicine until no more pain. half of the .6 mg of colchicine. then when no more pain. 1 allopurinol. 100mg per day.

The allopurinol is a preventative medicine and is taken every day regardless of whether he has gout. Hopefully by taking this medicine it will stop the flare ups and the need to use colchicine as often.
If he continues to have gout flares see your doctor again. He may need to increase the dose of allopurinol.
Hope this is of help.
