Because it's a steroid, is it recommended that people only take it for a short amount of time? Also, is it safe to use this when I am taking a corticosteroid for asthma?

Veramyst probably is another delivery system for corticosteroids. If so then the answer is (Check the med out if it is even a corticosteroid.)
Oral corticosteroids act as doubled edge sword: yes they can provide years of relief; yes, depending on the dosage and length of time taken, they will wreck havoc with your system. But you either take them or die. One of my bone docs has a dead knuckle from the extremely hi dosage he took to stay alive.
I took 50 mgs daily of prednisone for 13 years, the side effects got uglier by the year. I would only take oral corticosteroids under the treatment of a pulmonologist.
More than you probably wanted to know.
Best wishes.
