Generally, drug holidays are not recommended for patients who have a history of osteoporotic fractures.
For patients who have not had a fracture before, drug holidays are recommended for certain bisphosphonates (Alendronate), as long-term use increases the risk for stress fractures.
As Boniva is relatively new, there is little data for this drug. Your question is best answered by a bone specialist.
