How long should a person take sertraline?

Spring359m,
It's usually taken until the patient has shown significant improvement in depression. If you are trying to stop taking it, but have been on it for a while; you need to talk to your doctor about tapering off of it instead of stopping it cold turkey. If you discontinue the med abruptly, it can cause severe nausea and vomiting as well as severe headaches. If you are simply wondering how long it takes for Zoloft to be effective, then you should know that it takes about 1-2 weeks before you notice any marked improvement. Hope this helps.
