I started having significant issues with what we think is related to GERD. I suffer most often at night. The taste in my mouth is just awful and I constantly cough. I am on day 3 of this medication and I have only seen a slight decrease in my reflux. Will I see more improvement over time?
One of the other folks asked what type of meds you are on and that would be good to know. Also, in addition to any meds you take, you also must be careful about what you eat/drink, when you eat/drink, and how much you eat. I've been on nexium for going on two years now but still have to watch my diet. Hope your meds are starting to work now. (You also need to know when to take your meds.)
Jpuckett, I also have GERD & am on omeprazole(prilosec) 20mg every morning when I first awaken. If I miss a dose I almost immediately get the sour reflux. I would like to try to quit the med as it can exerbate femur fractures, & I have the worst bones in history. Each time I try to quit I get immediate heartburn. I take on while this is happening, & it majically goes away. My gastro doc says I produce too much stomach acid, & will have to remain on it forever. Another good idea if it only bothers you at night is not to eat anything or drink colas or any caffeine products after six PM. Raising the head of the bed 6 to 8 inches also helps. Cement blocks do a very good job of this. It helps keep you on a slight angle where as the acid tends not to run backwrds giving you heartburn. Sometimes a teaspoon of baking soda & 1/2 half a glas of water helps too. Just my thoughts...
I was taking prilosec twice a day regardless of my diet. i eliminated citrus, tomato dairy spicy foods, I got a slant pillow for my bed as I usually had to sleep sitting up and nothing made a difference if I stopped the prilosec. I was recommended by my herbalist to start taking "Aloe Life"Herbal aloe "Stomach Plus Formula". I took it 3 times a day for 3 weeks and stopped the prilosec. I then tapered it off and only take it maybe once every two days. I sleep like a baby. No sore throats, endless burping, chest pain. it is really a miracle cure for me. It is a liquid, a little strange to taste but worth anything.I DO NOT work for this company!I am a retired 69 year old woman who was told by my medical doctor that due to my age it was something I would have to put up with for the rest of my life.I was concerned about the side effects of Prilosec and that was why I searched around for an alternative
