my daughter was given morphine 30 minutes prior to reducing a dislocated patella. was she still even getting any relief from the med while they were reducing her kneecap?
Everyone has a natural tolerance to opiates due to the fact that we produce endorphins which closely resemble morphine. So if your daughter was already in pain then she would have already flooded her receptors with endorphins (the bodies natural pain killers). So when they gave her the shot it likely was to low a dose. If this ever happens again don't be afraid to tell whoever is looking after your pain that you are not getting enough relief. Morphine is a great pain killer but there are many more powerful pain killers. So there is always options to help kill pain... Good luck... Dave
