It depends on what you are taking it for.
If you have purchased it over the counter you should see your doctor if you continue to need it. You need to get the cause of your pain diagnosed.
If you have been prescribed it for a chronic condition such as arthritis then you will probably need to take it indefinitely.
If you have been prescribed it for an acute problem such as a sprained ankle them you will only need to take it for a short time.
