My husband has shingles ,the dr gave him loratab for pain.
Hello Ms.dolly, Lortab is a narcotic pain drug, & usually is effective as much as it will be within 30 minutes to 1 hour of taking. Most doctors prescribe drugs such as Lyrica or Neurontin for nerve pain of shingles. Your husband might suggest this to his doctor if the Lortab does not help...
Shingles pain is very hard to treat. It is a nerve pain and many pain meds dont do well to touch it. He might try something like Lyrica or Gabapentin. There are also the Lidoderm patches which apply a numbing agent Lidocaine directly to the painful area. They might be worth a try.
