I currently take 7.5 325mg percocet Once a day for my fibromyalgia pain all though I need more often but Im limited cause the doctors dont like to hand that out but they are trying to get me to take antidepressants in wich I refuse to take and a lady on the Fibromyalgia chat site suggested to get tramadol on line so Im inquiring if it is compared to percocet and safe , Im desperate for pain relief and over counter crap doesnt work..
Could you provide a little more info for us? Like how much Tramadol you were taking, and for how long?
Tramadol is an opioid pain reliever and can be addictive, it also has SNRI qualities to it, and should NEVER be stopped cold turkey, unless you were only taking it for a short time.
If you were on it for long term chronic pain, please do not stop it cold turkey as seizures are a possibility.
Hi, don't be too quick to dismiss anti-depressants because of stigma attached to them. As others have commented, anti-depressants are used for many reasons. I was prescribed them to take in the evening to combat insomnia and relieve back pain (Amitriptyline). I do take anti-depressants for their original use anyway, but these are in addition to the other meds and i take those in the morning (Citalopram). The best advice i can give you is NOT to start taking tramadol. Again, as already stated, it is a synthetic opioid and works in a very similar way to heroin on you body and mind. It is highly addictive and i know so many people that have become addicted, i'm one of them, and getting off them is a nightmare! I hope you find something that works for you. I would suggest you do a bit of research on any medication that is suggested you start so you know the facts. Good luck
Hi denise. I agree with sweetlemon, I had a grand mal seizure from tramadol(too much caused it, but not the most I have taken), it also has alot of drug interactions. I had trouble sleeping too, sort of a zombie like, half sleep. When the medicine wore off, I had to much anxiety to sleep. Im truly sorry for your pain. I don’t think tramadol works great for long term benefits, it's pain aiding affect soon wore off. It's extremely addictive though. I hope you can find relief. I wish I could help more.
Tramadol is Ultram. As an RN who works in a poly substance abuse psych unit it sounds like your Dr. Is just trying to prevent the need for more get worse. It's not your fault, just a given it will happen. Your back issues are common to most people who are not even aware of it. Look for other pain treatments other than increasing narcotics, most Dr.s won't anymore anyway. Because of all the problems with drug abuse and od's the DEA is breathing down their necks! Can't get those meds as easy as one used to. As far as Ultram, you would have better luck getting those, no stronger than maybe a Darvocet. Good luck I just realized your discomfort is from fibromyalgia, problem with that is that it is symptomatic and not something black and white that can be seen on x-ray . Find a female Dr.! Males just think we are making it up!!
