I am like so many that want to stop taking pain medicine. I have a back injury and fibromyalgia but I have so much I am responsible for. I need to stop taking them but need to be able to function. Any recommendations?
I would start with talking to your doctor to get the best advice. Depending on what medications you take & how much you're taking, I personally would start with just one medication and work it down to an acceptable level for you. Then start with the next medication. I definitely wouldn't do anything without your doctor's input. Depending on how long you've been taking the medications, your body can go thru withdrawl.
I strongly agree with BrandiRN on this one. I just wanted to encourage you girl, for what you are wanting to do. Because you won't be able to function if you're in serios withdrawls. I have Fibromyalgia too, and it's no walk in the park hon. That's one thing for sure. And I have the back problems too. I believe God puts really good (and some really bad too) doctors out there for a reason... to help the people who need it. Who really need help. So don't beat yourself up too bad. I'm just saying... a back injury and Fibromyalgia put together has to be hard. I know. I have them both. Along with a couple other things. I will pray for you 4myloves, that you will get the strength you need to make the right decisions. I have allot of responsibility too, but I do what I can do, and my husband comes home, bless his heart and does the rest for me. Please don't just stop your medications. Pray about it, talk it over with your doctor, You might realize why do You need to stop taking them... instead of I need to stop taking them. I'm just saying... make sure your body is ready for such a big decision. You take care, and know that you are not alone, and we care about you. We are always here for you. Anytime. God bless. Ruth
If you could share the medications you are taking and the dosage, might be able to help with a taper program. Always best to run it by the doc, but happy to suggest. It is possible to taper with little to no withdrawal, but you would still have to deal with the back and fibro pain. Have you tried any of the non narcotic meds for fibro and neuropathic pain?
