First off, let me start by saying I don't believe I abuse my pills, as I take the prescribed amount or less. I have 5mg Percocet and take 1 1/2 - 2 per day... Mostly at night. I do however enjoy the way they make me feel, and take them even when I'm not in pain that I can't tolerate. I've been doing it for over a year now due to a cervical fusion I had last year, and degenerative disc disease in my lower back. I'm finding now, not taking them during the day causes me to be nausea and irritable. I do smoke marijuana almost daily (at night only), but don't have a problem with my marijuana problem because I don't feel awful when I don't smoke weed, and can go weeks without it. I have valium and and a few xanax that I have never taken. 5mg valium and 2.5 xanax... The weed helps with the nausea and vomiting, but this anxiety is crazy. I know it only last a few days, which is why I'm asking if I take a small does of valium or xanax to help to help the crazy feeling going on in my head, will it prolong my withdrawal considering these drugs, I believe are in the same family. Any creditable help would be greatly appreciated.
How do I make withdrawal from percocet a little easier?
Added 23 Dec 2011:
Let me add to my first sentence: "Let me start by saying I don't believe I abuse my pills, as I take the prescribed amount or less.. HOWEVER, I do feel slightly addicted or like it could go in that direction if I don't curb it NOW!
First let me explain that the percocet is an opiate while the valium and xanax are benzodiazepines, so they are not in the same family of drugs. If you taper off the percocet by reducing your daily dosage slowly over time, you can avoid the withdrawals. Since you are only taking upto 2 a day, then reduce to 1 and 1/2 by taking 1/2 in the morning, 1/2 in the afternoon and 1/2 at night for at least 3 days. Then drop to 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 in the evening for 3 days. Then drop to 1/2 at night for 3 days, then stop. The xanax or valium will help any restlessness you feel, though I would only take if absolutely necessary and for as short a time as possible.
Anymore questions, don't hesitate to ask, be happy to help,
No, percocet and valium are not in the same family of meds, and yes valium and like drugs will temporarily make the withdrawals little easier. You have to be careful not to switch one addictive medication for another, as withdrawals from Valium or Xanax like drugs can cause death, unlike withdrawals from percocet.
