My adult child is going to begin Robert's taper plan and will have to go through withdraw first and has asked me to be there for the withdraw. I am scared and don't know what to expect or look for. Any advice on what I should do in my role and what red flags I should look for during her withdraw before she can take the first dose of suboxon. She was hooked on pain pills from a surgery, tried suboxon (hated it) and tried to wean herself off which didn't work. Someone then gave her methodone to help with the severe withdraw until she could get to the dr and get more suboxon
Please talk to the doctor who will be prescribing the suboxone about the methadone. My understanding was that you can switch from methadone to suboxone, but, you have to be on a small amount and you have to be in withdrawal and the methadone out of you system for the suboxone to work. There is a group of medicines known as The Thomas Recipe, which can be looked up here and purchased separately or sometimes together at the healthfood store. Please check here for it and it addresses some of the worst withdrawal symptoms. Please go with your child to the suboxone doctor for support and so you can help them when they are weak and fatigued. Nothing bad will happen but, your child will feel weak and fatigued and possibly scared. You are a great Parent and I will say some Prayers for your child. Best of Luck to you both.
Dear Compassion..God Bless and good luck from a parent in your possition but even worse... mine is pregnant and on methadone so she cant get off it or it will kill the baby. So we have to wait, but I understand you have your hands full in the next few days so just be strong & pray and dont give up..she is worth every minute, hour, second you spend with her. Mine went from pain meds, to heroine to methodone, 7-8 years b-4 I realized, she did not live w/me & is 32 yrs old, crazy huh? Age old story, divorced early, disfunctional family, etc, and now we are paying the ultimate price. I will fight to the end and I hope you do as well. This stuff is killing our kids, drive to a meth clinic in your area and you will not believe what you see..we have 3-4 in middle america mid size town, hundreds of cars in and out 6am -12 noon 6 days a week non stop, 5-10 minute visit each $14 a day each person, I'd sa7 at least 1500 people at the one mine goes to, what a scame huh? They keep them off the street but they keep them hooked and methadone withdrawl is much worse than pain meds or heroine withdrawl, oh yea they dont tell them that! Good buisness if you dont mind killing weak addicted people. Never once have they tried to lower her dose or wean her down, if they loose clients they close, so please dont let go of your daughter no matter what! Fight for her to the end!
